Joliet Catholic has gone a perfect 6-0 against Wilmington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Hilltoppers will square off against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m.
Joliet Catholic made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Providence Catholic, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Hilltoppers fell just short of the Celtics by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Hilltoppers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Nina Sebahar was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Sebahar wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Molly Ryan, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Wilmington made easy work of Streator on Tuesday and carried off a 10-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 14 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Joliet Catholic, Wilmington also got a great game from a two-way player: Taryn Gilbert. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Gilbert was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Wilmington let Keeley Walsh and Taylor Stefancic run wild. Walsh went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Stefancic went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Walsh has hit this season. Molly Southall was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Wilmington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Wilmington pushed their record up to 21-6 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Joliet Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-11.
Joliet Catholic beat Wilmington 6-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hilltoppers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
