Great Bend hasn't had much luck against Garden City recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Buffaloes at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Garden City will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Great Bend extended their winning streak to four on Thursday. Everything went the Panthers' way against Hays as they made off with a 13-7 victory. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly six runs.
Chayla Prendergast spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, DeShawnna Bryant and Alyssa McCauley did most of the damage at the plate: Bryant went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while McCauley went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. McCauley is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Katherine Mazouch was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Great Bend was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
While Garden City didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Northwest 14-4 two weeks ago. The win was just business as usual for the Buffaloes, who after five games remain undefeated this season.
Great Bend pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Garden City, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Everything went Great Bend's way against Garden City in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Great Bend made off with a 16-1 win. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Buffaloes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
