The Richmond Red Devils pushed their score all the way to 61 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a tough 83-61 loss at the hands of Kokomo. Richmond has struggled against Kokomo recently, as their matchup on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Richmond lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mason Carpenter, who scored 19 points. Braiden Hogg was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Kokomo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Karson Rogers, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds. Rogers hasn't dropped below 16 points for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Flory Bidunga, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds.
Kokomo's lineup was just a bit different on Friday as A'dayveon Young got a bit more time on the court (21 vs. his season average of 9.61). Young made the most of the opportunity, scoring 11 points. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Richmond's defeat dropped their record down to 18-3. As for Kokomo, they pushed their record up to 18-3 with that victory, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Richmond will challenge Lafayette Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lafayette Jefferson will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Richmond is ranked 26th). As for Kokomo, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 72-39 win vs. Lebanon on the 10th.
