Briarwood Academy and St. Andrew's have had some time off and are no doubt ready to hit the field. Briarwood Academy and St. Andrew's go head to head on Friday in their first playoff game of the year. The Buccaneers have a defense that allows only 15.36 points per game, so St. Andrew's' offense will have their work cut out for them.
The Buccaneers were close but no cigar two weeks ago as they fell 24-21 to Edmund Burke Academy. Briarwood Academy's loss came about despite a quality game from Dax Reese, who picked up 94 yards on the ground on 17 carries and threw two passing touchdowns. This makes it 11 games in a row in which Reese has produced a touchdown.
Meanwhile, St. Andrew's took their contest against Monsignor Donovan Catholic by a conclusive 41-7 score. The rankings were on St. Andrew's' side, but they didn't forecast quite such a lopsided result.
St. Andrew's' win lifted them to 5-4 while Briarwood Academy's defeat dropped them down to 8-3. We'll find out if St. Andrew's can add another positive mark to their record or if Briarwood Academy can shake off the loss and take the spring out of St. Andrew's' step.
