Baseball Recap: River Mill Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Roxboro Community, River Mill was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Central Carolina Academy Eagles a 13-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Gavin Loy made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2. He has become a key player for River Mill: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, River Mill got a massive performance out of Blake Lutterloh, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most runs Lutterloh has posted since back in April of 2024. Owen Parrish was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

River Mill pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Central Carolina Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. River Mill will venture away from home to face off against Chatham Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jaguars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Central Carolina Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Lee Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
