Freedom is 0-9 against Hylton since April of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Freedom has given up an average of 16.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Friday just wasn't the day for Freedom's offense. They lost 15-0 to Potomac Senior on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 25 runs in the game before, the Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Hylton hadn't beaten Gar-Field on the road since May 7, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Bulldogs blew past the Red Wolves 23-4. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Alanis Layne was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Layne was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two triples. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Luana Plummer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Jayel Williams, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Hylton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gar-Field only posted an OBP of .435.
Hylton is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Freedom, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Freedom has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 14 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hylton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Freedom suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Hylton in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
