Basketball Recap: St. Edward's Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Cody Simmonds and Gary Anderson

St. Edward's tournament run continued when they took on Lighthouse Private Christian Academy on Saturday. The St. Edward's Pirates fell just short of the Lighthouse Private Christian Academy Stingrays by a score of 67-65.

St. Edward's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Gary Anderson, who dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 15 rebounds, and ten blocks, and Cody Simmonds, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. Simmonds' afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Register, who posted eight points.

Even though they lost, St. Edward's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 12 consecutive matchups.

St. Edward's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Lighthouse Private Christian Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-9.

St. Edward's will challenge Florida Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lighthouse Private Christian Academy, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against West Florida at 6:30 p.m. on January 29th.
