The Rawlins County Buffaloes entered their tilt with the Cheylin Cougars with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Rawlins County took down Cheylin 47-29 on Tuesday. Given Rawlins County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Cheylin is ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rawlins County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Abby Micek out in front who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. Micek is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Camden Franklin was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six assists and six steals.
Despite the loss, Cheylin saw an underclassman step up: Taylor McCarty scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That was a full 58.6% of Cheylin's points, marking the 18th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayna Carson, who scored five points along with two steals.
Cheylin struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Rawlins County racked up 12 assists.
Rawlins County has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Cheylin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-10.
Rawlins County will be playing in front of their home fans against Quinter at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Rawlins County is coming into the game with four straight victories at home, meaning Quinter will have to defend against a team hungry for a win. As for Cheylin, they will head out on the road to take on Wauneta-Palisade at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Wauneta-Palisade focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Friday.
