Tri-Valley - West recap Oct. 30, 2012
Ithaca extended the longest winning streak in Tri-Valley - West this week by beating Calvin Christian, 42-14. The victory was the 10th in a row for the Yellowjackets.
Ithaca led the league in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on the Squires. Travis Smith threw for 219 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 25 yards in the win.
Evan Howard was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 89 yards on 15 carries as Valley Lutheran bested Calvin Christian. Travis Welch also contributed to the rushing game with 88 yards on the ground.
Kipp was the best wideout in Tri-Valley - West this week as the Yellowjackets bested Tom Hochhalter's team. Kipp racked up five receptions for 101 yards. Jared Evers helped Ithaca's passing attack out by catching three balls for 65 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Smith of Ithaca is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1696. He has also thrown 30 touchdowns. On the ground, Michigan Lutheran Seminary's Stephen Dietrich has rushed for 1269 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Hayden Rusz. The St. Charles star has 35 catches for 492 yards.
The Yellowjackets made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,280 from 1,773. The improvement was the result of 42-14 victory over the Squires last week.
