Bayfield is 0-10 against Centauri since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The two teams will face off at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Bayfield is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
Bayfield struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Saturday (Montezuma-Cortez was 34% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Bayfield was beaten by Montezuma-Cortez 57-27. Bayfield has not had much luck with Montezuma-Cortez recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Renae Foutz was Bayfield's leading scorer, having posted eight points. Foutz also led the team in rebounds with seven.
Meanwhile, Centauri unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Pagosa Springs by a score of 41-38.
Centauri's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Rylie McCarroll, who scored four points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Braelyn Tucker who scored 11 points along with three steals. Tucker has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.
Centauri struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Bayfield's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Centauri, their defeat ended a 17-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Bayfield have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 22.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Centauri struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Bayfield took a serious blow against Centauri in their previous matchup on January 13th, falling 48-8. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Bayfield was down 31-4.
