The Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Indians will face off against the Schalmont Sabres at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk turned things around against Albany on Monday. They blew past the Falcons 9-2.
Tylor Haslam looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk got a massive performance out of Alex Halwick, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles Halwick has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was David McMullen, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Schalmont ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Lansingburgh 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Sabres in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.
Luke Iovinella was excellent, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Logan Mulyca also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Schalmont, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Schalmont struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk's way against Schalmont in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk made off with a 17-3 victory. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Sabres have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
