3A/2A Northeastern Coastal recap Oct. 30, 2012
Holmes extended the longest winning streak in 3A/2A Northeastern Coastal this week by beating Northeastern, 28-21. The victory was the 10th in a row for the team.
Hertford County took down Bertie 29-13 last week, the largest margin of any game.
First Flight's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nathan Parker threw for 78 yards and Dennis Mullen had 52 yards receiving. On the ground Wyatt Robertson chipped in 183 yards. Billy Foster helped First Flight's passing attack out by catching two balls for 23 yards.
Mark Suprenant made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Night Hawks bested Currituck County. The 5-foot-11 senior recorded one fumble.
First Flight's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Night Hawks feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Parker has thrown for 786 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while Foster has 26 catches for 512 yards. Robertson leads the league in rushing with 1139 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Eagles take on Bertie. As it stands, Northeastern is in second, while Gregory Watford's team is in fifth.
Holmes made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,853 from 2,152. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 28-21 victory over Antonio Moore's team last week.
