The Jefferson Dragons and the Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but sadly the Jefferson Dragons had to settle for second. They had to suffer through a rough 62-17 loss at the hands of the Jaguars. Jefferson's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it 20 in a row.
Jefferson's loss came despite strong showings from Damaria Pitcher and Amaris Dominguez. Pitcher scored eight points, while Dominguez scored six points. That was a full 47.1% of Jefferson's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Sam Castro was a one-man wrecking crew for Academy of the Holy Names as she scored 17 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Castro has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Yasmeen Luzod, who scored six points along with seven assists.
Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Academy of the Holy Names, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-7.
Jefferson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Academy of the Holy Names, they will square off against Gibbs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gibbs is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
