Two dominant backs in Johnny Morales and Alejandro Lerma are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Pecos Eagles will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Mountain View Lobos at 9:50 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Friday, Pecos was the victim of a tough 28-7 defeat at the hands of Fort Stockton.
Morales put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Morales is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, Mountain View's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 69-13 loss at the hands of Monahans. Mountain View was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-7.
Although Mountain View took the loss, they still got scores from Christopher Mendoza and Erick Dominguez.
Pecos' loss dropped their record down to 4-5, while Mountain View's bumped their own down to the opposite: 5-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's match: Pecos has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 231.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 148.4 per game. It's looking like Thursday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Pecos came up short against Mountain View in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, falling 30-24. Can Pecos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
