Quitman was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Laurel. The Panthers came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
Northeast Jones extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region 5 this week by beating West Lauderdale, 34-14. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Quitman's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Franklin Jones threw for 145 and one touchdown and Toyell Ball had 58 yards receiving. On the ground Jones chipped in 133 yards. Kyle Colston helped Quitman's passing attack out by catching two balls for 57 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Northeast Jones takes on Northeast Lauderdale. At the moment, Keith Braddock's team is in second, while the Trojans are in fourth.
Steven Bynum's team took down the Golden Tornadoes 55-20 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jones in the win.
