Florence Christian has gone a perfect 4-0 against John Paul II recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Eagles will square off against the Golden Warrriors at 7:30 p.m. John Paul II took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Florence Christian, who comes in off a win.
Florence Christian barely beat Trinity Collegiate the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Titans 49-20. Considering the Eagles have won five games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Florence Christian's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Andrew Miller, who rushed for 87 yards and two TDs on only ten carries, and Brooks Poston, who rushed for 91 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Florence Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 356 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Meanwhile, John Paul II lost 48-28 to Pinewood Prep on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Golden Warrriors in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost six in a row.
Florence Christian will have to contain Jadon Inabinett as he made an impact in John Paul II's last game. He rushed for 62 yards and a pair of scores, and also picked up 33 receiving yards. Inabinett also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because John Paul II is 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 3-4 otherwise. Jackson Reilley was in the mix too, providing the Golden Warrriors with one TD.
John Paul II didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Merrick Baroni and Zachary Moulton. John Paul II received some extra help from Reilley, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
The victory made it two in a row for Florence Christian and bumps their season record up to 7-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 26 points in those games. As for John Paul II, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Miller and Inabinett. Miller just won't slow down this season and has run in 11 touchdowns while averaging 82.5 rushing yards per game. Inabinett has been a dominant force too and has run in 11 touchdowns while averaging 88.2 rushing yards per game.
Florence Christian beat John Paul II 30-21 in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Golden Warrriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
