The Fairmont Firebirds waltzed into their match Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with a 40-33 victory over Wayne. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Fairmont has scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fairmont to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaylah Thornton, who scored 11 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Adams, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Wayne still got an impressive performance from Imani Frazier, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds. Daryn Hitchcock was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Fairmont's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Wayne, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fairmont will square off against Beavercreek at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Beavercreek has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Wayne, they will head out on the road to face off against Centerville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Centerville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Wayne in Ohio (Centerville is ranked 60th, while Wayne is ranked 229th).
