The McGregor Mercuries just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Cook County Vikings at 6:15 p.m. on February 6th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Monday, McGregor was beaten by the Eagles 93-48. McGregor has struggled against the Eagles recently, as their game on Monday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Cook County pushed their score all the way to 59 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their tough 80-59 defeat to Cromwell might stick with them for a while. Cook County has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Cook County had strong showings from Denali Blackwell, who scored 26 points along with five assists and two steals, and Rohan Rude, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Blackwell hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Recko Helmerson- Skildum, who scored four points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Cook County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cromwell only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
McGregor has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Cook County, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-10.
McGregor was able to grind out a solid victory over the Vikings in their previous matchup back in January, winning 61-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for McGregor since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
