The Kamiak Knights will head out on the road to square off against the Lake Stevens Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Kamiak is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Kamiak took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over Cascade. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Bruins recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Gabby Veighey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Katie McBride, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Synclair Mawudeku, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two doubles.
Meanwhile, Lake Stevens entered their tilt with Mountlake Terrace on Monday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Hawks 10-2. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Lake Stevens also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Mara Sivley gave up two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Sivley.
At the plate, Alyssa Anderson and Alaina Emme did most of the damage at the plate: Anderson went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI, while Emme went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those doubles marked the first that Anderson has hit this season. Cora Quintel was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Lake Stevens kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountlake Terrace only managed three hits.
Kamiak's record is now 13-6. As for Lake Stevens, their record now sits at 12-8.
Kamiak skirted past Lake Stevens 7-6 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
