For the first time this season, Los Altos will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the South Hills Huskies at 3:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Los Altos 2.9, South Hills 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Los Altos is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past San Juan Hills 14-2 on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Conquerors, who have now won five games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Devany Alferez looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brianah Alejandre, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Angel Aguilar, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Los Altos hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in seven consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, South Hills earned a 6-2 win over Beaumont on Saturday. That's two games straight that the Huskies have won by exactly four runs.
Abigail Quintero and Parker Milton dominated on the mound. Quintero pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Milton struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, Quintero gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Mikayla Sta. Ana was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Jayden Garcia was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.
South Hills is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. Los Altos' win bumped their record up to 10-5.
Los Altos came out on top in a nail-biter against South Hills when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Will Los Altos repeat their success, or does South Hills has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
