On Friday, La Vega suffered a tough 62-42 defeat at the hands of Ridge Point. While losing is never fun, La Vega can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 485th, while Ridge Point is ranked 94th).
Despite the loss, La Vega still got an impressive performance from Monta Hilliard, who scored 12 points along with 5 assists. Hilliard scored a full 28.6% of La Vega's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amir Gibson, who scored 9 points.
This is the second loss in a row for La Vega and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Ridge Point, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3-1 record this season.
La Vega will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against University at 6:30 p.m. on December 1st. University knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully La Vega likes a good challenge. As for Ridge Point, they will take on Mexia at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
