Helias has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Battle Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Missouri (Helias is ranked 21st, while Battle is ranked 12th).
After soaring to a 42-point win in their last game, Helias came back down to earth on Monday. They fell just short of De Smet Jesuit by a score of 55-52. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Helias in their matchups with De Smet Jesuit: they've now lost six in a row.
Meanwhile, Battle can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Capital City 81-56. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Battle just coasted through the last quarter.
Tate Mccubbin was his usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-8 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Vernell Holt was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Helias' loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-5. As for Battle, their victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-4.
Helias strolled past Battle in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 by a score of 76-58. The rematch might be a little tougher for Helias since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
