The Smithsburg Leopards gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 49-31 victory over Brunswick. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Smithsburg also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Smithsburg found their leader in underclassman Claire Bono, who scored 15 points along with 6 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Skyla Mastronardi, who scored 7 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Despite the loss, Brunswick still got an impressive performance from Andie Welsh, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Moya Nkong, who scored 5 points along with 13 rebounds.
Smithsburg's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Brunswick, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Smithsburg will be playing at home against Williamsport at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brunswick, they will head out on the road to face off against Francis Scott Key at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
