Basketball Recap: Decatur's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Auburn Mountainview, Decatur was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They secured a 47-43 W over the Mt. Rainier Rams. The win almost wasn't to be: the Golden Gators were down 29-15 in the second quarter.

Jorge Martinez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 5 for 8 on his way to 17 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. The game was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dar Mcjimpson Jr, who posted 12 points.

Decatur smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Mt. Rainier's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Owen Brown, who put up eight points, and Mason Emil, who had six points in addition to seven boards and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Evan Patton, who posted two points and five rebounds.

Decatur's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 1-6. As for Mt. Rainier, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-3.

Decatur will face off against Kentlake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Decatur is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.1 points per game this season. As for Mt. Rainier, they will square off against Chief Sealth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Rainier also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 55.9 points per game.
