The West Valley Wolf Pack will challenge the Monroe Catholic Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
West Valley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: North Pole, who was ranked 20th at the time (West Valley was ranked 15th). The Wolf Pack were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over the Patriots on Friday. The Wolf Pack's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Madison Inderrieden was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Makayla Anderson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
West Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .737. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Monroe Catholic let Hutchison stack ten runs on them in the third inning on Monday but luckily Monroe Catholic prevailed anyway. The Rams put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 17-11 win. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won five in a row.
Anya Chernich made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and ten unearned) runs off four hits. Chernich was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI.
In other batting news, Leyton Cortez was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Myana Rojas was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
The win was the third in a row for West Valley, bringing their record up to 3-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Monroe Catholic, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Everything went West Valley's way against Monroe Catholic when the teams last played back in May of 2022, as West Valley made off with a 20-11 victory. Do the Wolf Pack have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
