The Odem Owls were the 38-36 winner over the Mathis Pirates when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Odem took a 42-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates on Tuesday.
Arik Cuellar went supernova for Mathis, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Ashton Quesada was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Odem's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-16. As for Mathis, they now have a winning record of 14-13.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Odem will take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Goliad is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games. As for Mathis, they will stay at home for another game and welcome the Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. George West has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 5.
