Powerful senior running back Michael Dyer carried 20 times for 171 yards and five touchdowns on a muddy field Friday night as Little Rock Christian (Little Rock, Ark.) rolled past Hot Springs Lakeside, 47-14.
The 5-foot-9, 215-pounder emerged as the all-time leading ground gainer in Arkansas history with 7,266 yards. The previous record of 7,122 was set by Vernon Hicks of Elaine from 1996-98.
This season he has carried 175 times for 1,671 yards and 22 touchdowns. His career totals stand at 829 carries for 7,266 yards and 75 touchdowns.
“It’s huge and big to me personally because of our relationship and I know how hard he’s worked,” coach Justin Kramer said. “This is only our eighth year of football and he’s been our (major) running back for four years.
“His best asset probably is his balance. What makes him so great is that there are guys who are fast and guys who are big and strong, and some are good receivers but Michael can do it all. He’s so hard to tackle because he’s so strong and you can’t knock him off balance. He’s really put together and ready to play right now at the college level.”
The Arkansas bulldozer is being recruited by Division I powers throughout the country. Kramer revealed that Auburn is leading at the moment. Arkansas is close behind and Tennessee also is in the picture.
