The Meadowcreek Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their eighth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 56-55 to Cross Creek. While losing is never fun, Meadowcreek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 299th, while Cross Creek is ranked 76th).
Meadowcreek lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Christian Calhoun, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Calhoun continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Emanuel Befekadu, who scored 17 points.
Even though they lost, Meadowcreek were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meadowcreek's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Cross Creek, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Meadowcreek won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Miller Grove at 10:00 a.m. on December 28th. Miller Grove comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Cross Creek is on the road again on Thursday and play against KIPP Atlanta Collegiate at 3:15 p.m. on December 28th. KIPP Atlanta Collegiate is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
