South Salem faced West Linn in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Saxons came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lions, sneaking past 5-4. The win was just business as usual for the Saxons, who after eight games remain undefeated this season.

Harrison Buckingham tossed a big game, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, South Salem let Gavin Price and Teagan Scott run wild. Price went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Scott scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Scott is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Noah Scharer was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

South Salem's record is now 8-0. As for West Linn, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Looking ahead, South Salem will face off against Lakeridge at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for West Linn, they will host McMinnville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lions 4, the Grizzlies 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
