Valley Oak recap Oct. 16, 2012
Oakdale extended the longest winning streak in Valley Oak this week by beating East Union, 54-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Kimball moved up to 464 from 543 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Jaguars climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Sierra 58-45.
Joe Menzel threw for 162 yards and two touchdowns. He went 13-20 with zero interceptions.
Anthony Cota was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 29 carries, he ran for 300 yards as the Timberwolves bested Kimball. Guillermo Nunez also contributed to the rushing game with 150 yards on the ground.
Brandon Dabney made the biggest impact on defense this week as Manteca beat Sonora. The 5-foot-11 junior recorded one fumble.
Lewis was the best wideout in Valley Oak this week as Sierra defeated Steve Anastasio's team. Lewis racked up two receptions for 79 yards. Bryson Sanders helped Sierra's passing attack out by catching two balls for 42 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Jake Pruitt and Cota Jeff Harbison's team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Pruitt leads the league in passing with 698 yards, while Cota has rushed for 1186 yards this season. The Buffaloes' TJ Galdos leads the league in receiving yards with 378 on 32 catches.
Eddie Smith of the Manteca is only 77 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 142 carries Smith has accumulated 923 yard this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Oakdale takes on Weston Ranch. As it stands, Trent Merzon's team is in second, while the Cougars are in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Mustangs take on Weston Ranch. Oakdale has allowed 82 points this season, while Mike Hale's team has given up 150. The Mustangs allowed 6 points last week as they topped the Lancers.
The Cougars were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Weston Ranch defeated the Spartans 15-6 earlier in the week.
