Softball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is St. Paul's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

St. Paul won the last time they faced Mansfield Christian and things went their way on Thursday too. The Flyers put the hurt on the Flames with a sharp 17-5 win. The Flyers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.

Mallorie Sowers and Isabella Guerra made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Sowers pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Guerra struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Sowers went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Guerra went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Those three runs gave Sowers a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ryleigh Mansfield-Bush was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ella Kalizewski, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

St. Paul was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mansfield Christian only posted a batting average of .324.

St. Paul has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Mansfield Christian, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Paul will host Huron at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Mansfield Christian, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Genoa Christian Academy at 11:00 a.m.
