The Firelands Falcons will square off against the Perkins Pirates at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Firelands is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Firelands came up short against Norwalk and fell 7-4.
Jeanette Crawford was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Aubrynn Reichle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Perkins never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against South Central on Friday. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 19-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won four contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Perkins also got a great performance from Maycee Bohn as she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits.
At the plate, Hannah Koelsch was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Natalie Martin, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Perkins kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Perkins pushed their record up to 6-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Firelands, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Perkins' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Firelands has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Perkins, though, as they've been averaging 11.3 hits. Given Firelands' sizable advantage in that area, the Pirates will need to find a way to close that gap.
Firelands might still be hurting after the 16-10 defeat they got from Perkins when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
