The Polytech Panthers will square off against the Delmarva Christian Royals at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Polytech took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Sussex Academy 10-9.
The team relied heavily on Hermes Rodriguez, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 5-for-6. He also put up three RBI, which were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was William Harvey, who went 2-for-7 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Rodriguez wasn't the only one making solid contact: Polytech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.
While Delmarva Christian didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over Dickinson on Saturday. With that win, the Royals brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
Chase Hitchens was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Hitchens was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.
In other batting news, Kasey Bell was incredible, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Tyler Hutt was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Delmarva Christian's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Polytech, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Polytech has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Delmarva Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
