The Parsippany Hills Vikings pushed their score all the way to 64 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 74-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Phillipsburg. That's two games in a row now that Parsippany Hills has lost by exactly ten points.
Phillipsburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Matthew Scerbo Jr. led the charge by dropping a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Scerbo Jr.'s seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Martin, who scored 19 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Parsippany Hills has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-4 record this season. As for Phillipsburg, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Parsippany Hills will face off against Parsippany at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Parsippany will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings (they are ranked 325th, while Parsippany Hills is ranked 54th). As for Phillipsburg, they will head out on the road to face off against Ridge at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Ridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Phillipsburg likes a good challenge.
