The Topsail Pirates''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 26-12 bruising from Laney. While losing is never fun, Topsail can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 188th, while Laney is ranked 44th).
Although Topsail took the loss, they still got scores from Jack O'Day and Ryder Willcox.
It was another big night for Tyjhere Crudup, who rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. Crudup hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Kolbe Little was another key contributor, throwing for 290 yards and a touchdown while completing 76.3% of his passes.
Topsail has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Laney, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Topsail does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Laney will be playing at home against Middle Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
