Wahama is a perfect 8-0 against Gilmer County since June of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The White Falcons will challenge the Titans at 6:00 p.m. Wahama is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
Wahama's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They came out on top against Wirt County by a score of 5-0.
Wahama's win was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Fiona VanMatre, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Wahama hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Gilmer County waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 20-4 margin over the Red Devils. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won 11 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Addison Godfrey made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Godfrey was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Gilmer County got a massive performance out of Erin Stoddard, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, Stoddard posted three RBI, the most she's had over her last 11 matchups. Another player making a difference was Layla Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple.
Gilmer County's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.9 runs over those games. As for Wahama, their record is now 16-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wahama has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gilmer County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wahama came out on top in a nail-biter against Gilmer County in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 12-11. The rematch might be a little tougher for the White Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
