Wasatch and Maple Mountain are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Wasps will square off against the Golden Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Wasatch came out on top against Timpview on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run seventh inning. The Wasps blew past the Thunderbirds 12-3. The Wasps haven't had any issues with the Thunderbirds recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Max Livingston spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits.
At the plate, Micah Dahl was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Austin Brown, who went 3-for-4 with three runs.
Wasatch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Maple Mountain faced Orem in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Golden Eagles put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 12-1 win. Winning may never get old, but the Golden Eagles sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Jeremiah Hall made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cy Chrisman, who fired off three home runs, six RBI, and one stolen base while going 4-for-4. AJ Thomas was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Maple Mountain's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Wasatch, their record is now 12-5.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wasatch hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. However, it's not like Maple Mountain struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wasatch suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Maple Mountain in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Wasps avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
