Basketball Recap: Watersprings Skates Past Alturas Prep with Ease

There's no place like home for Watersprings, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Alturas Prep Pumas 58-29. Watersprings not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since November 21, 2024 (when they won 40-5).

Watersprings' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Caroline Combs led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Combs is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Archambault, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Watersprings smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

The win got Watersprings back to even at 1-1. As for Alturas Prep, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Watersprings will venture away from home to square off against American Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Alturas Prep, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Leadore at 5:30 p.m. on January 6, 2026.
