Basketball Recap: Deshaun Henderson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Charleston over Massac County

After flying high against Scott County Central last Thursday, Charleston came back down to earth. The Charleston Bluejays took a 63-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Massac County Patriots. If the Bluejays were looking for revenge after losing 57-53 to them when the teams met on Tuesday, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Charleston lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Deshaun Henderson, who went 9 of 14 on his way to 20 points. The dominant performance gave Henderson a new career-high in points. Trenez Lane was another key player, going 7 for 12 en route to 16 points.

Even though they lost, Charleston smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Leading Massac County to victory were Jude Harmon and Jack Turner. Harmon went 11 of 15 on his way to 27 points, while Turner went 7 for 16 en route to 22 points.

With the loss, Charleston broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-7. As for Massac County, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-8.

Charleston has already played their next matchup, an 81-27 victory against Fort Campbell on the 23rd. As for Massac County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-36 defeat against Goreville on the 24th.
