Even though the Largo Packers scored an imposing 65 points on Tuesday, the East Lake Eagles still came out on top. East Lake walked away with a 74-65 win over Largo. Given East Lake's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Largo is ranked 276th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
East Lake found their leader in underclassman Anthony Brown, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. Brown has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Cooper, who scored 21 points.
Several Packers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jeremy Thomas, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. Thomas hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Kepler, who scored 19 points.
East Lake's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Largo, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Lake will take on Clearwater at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Largo, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lakewood at 7:30 p.m. Lakewood has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 29.
