The South Harrison Hawks are taking a road trip to take on the Williamstown Yellowjackets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. South Harrison has given up an average of 13.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Last Saturday, South Harrison was able to grind out a solid victory over Calhoun, taking the game 15-12. With that win, the Hawks brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.
Tori Nicholson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Nicholson was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, South Harrison got a massive performance out of Riley Myers, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5. Alexas Talbott also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
South Harrison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .531. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Williamstown hadn't done well against Magnolia recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets put the hurt on the Blue Eagles with a sharp 10-4 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Yellowjackets needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Alyssa Clare spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Nevaeh Moore was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Gracie Rush, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
South Harrison's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Williamstown, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Williamstown's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Harrison has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Williamstown, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits.
