Big North - Independence recap Oct. 9, 2012
Ramapo was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Wayne Valley. The Raiders came in at 13 in the state poll after placing at number 35 last week.
Ramapo extended the longest winning streak in Big North - Independence this week by beating the Indians, 45-13. The victory was the fifth in a row for Drew Gibbs' team.
The Raiders' dynamic duo of Anthony Lovecchio and Logan Schulte proved tough for Wayne Valley to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Lovecchio threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns and Schulte had 114 yards receiving. Pat O'Hagan helped Ramapo's passing attack out by catching five balls for 85 yards.
Erik Ostlund made the biggest impact on defense this week as West Milford fell to Northern Highlands. The 5-foot-9 sophomore recorded one fumble.
Chris Garcia was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 77 yards on 11 carries as Pascack Valley beat the Indians. Jaleel Felton also contributed to the rushing game with 72 yards on the ground.
5-foot-10 quarterback Lovecchio of the Raiders is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1031. He has also thrown 12 touchdowns. On the ground, Bergenfield's Will Rodriguez has rushed for 683 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Nick Soravilla. The Pascack Valley star has 15 catches for 338 yards.
A big matchup in Big North - Independence this week will be when the Highlanders take on Ramapo. West Milford is in fifth place, while the Raiders are in first place.
Ramapo took down Wayne Valley 45-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Lovecchio ran for 39 yards in the win.
