North Central Kansas recap Oct. 23, 2012
Concordia extended the longest winning streak in North Central Kansas this week by beating Goodland, 34-24. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Clay Center and Colby played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Clay Center eventually emerging with a 25-19 victory. Caleb Carson threw for 151 yards and one touchdown, ran for 127 yards and caught one passes for nine yards in the win.
Dalton Haist was the best wideout in the league this week as the Tigers topped the Eagles. Haist tallied six receptions for 104 yards. Ricky Huse helped Clay Center's passing attack out by catching one ball for 21 yards.
Carson made the biggest impact on defense this week as Clay Center beat Colby. The 6-foot-2 defensive back pulled down two interceptions.
Trevor Nordell was the most productive running back in North Central Kansas this week. He ran for 188 yards on 15 carries as Concordia bested Chris Gardner's team. Teammate Josh Pounds added to the ground attack by rushing for 48 yards.
Clay Center's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Carson has thrown for 573 yards and four touchdowns this season, while Haist has 21 catches for 271 yards. Carson also leads the league in rushing with 946 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Concordia takes on second place Clay Center. Tim Lambert's team defeated the Cowboys last week, while the Tigers topped the Eagles.
Carson of the Clay Center is only 54 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
