The North Smithfield Northmen will head out on the road to face off against the Middletown Islanders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Middletown took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on North Smithfield, who comes in off a win.
North Smithfield took care of business in their home opener on Wednesday (barely). In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 38-37 win over Lincoln.
Among those leading the charge was Olivia Labonte, who scored ten points. Raeghan Reilly was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, Middletown was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 45-40 to North Providence. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Middletown in their matchups with North Providence: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Middletown got a solid performance out of Ella Bolano, who scored 20 points. Another player making a difference was Francesca Goldman, who scored eight points.
North Smithfield's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Middletown, they bumped their record down to 1-1 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road dating back to last season.
North Smithfield strolled past Middletown when the teams last played back in January by a score of 42-27. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Middletown's Virginia Hamilton, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
