The Southview Cougars will head out to challenge the Ross Little Giants at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Southview's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Rossford as they made off with a 16-0 win. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ross). They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Start on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Little Giants, who have now won three matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Cameron Joseph made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Joseph was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Ross is undefeated when Joseph posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise.
In other pitching news, Zavior Esquivel looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Cade Reineck, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Karson Kayden also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Ross hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Start struck out seven times.
Ross has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Southview, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2.
Southview beat Ross 5-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
