It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Canyon Eagles had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They strolled past Wichita Falls with points to spare, taking the game 51-33. Given Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 279th, while Wichita Falls is ranked 620th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Wichita Falls saw an underclassman step up: Eric Powell rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown.
Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. As for Wichita Falls, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
Canyon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Wichita Falls also has no future games currently scheduled.
