Even though the Maria Carrillo Pumas have not done well against the Healdsburg Greyhounds recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Maria Carrillo really took it to Healdsburg for the full four quarters, racking up a 75-47 win on the road. Given Maria Carrillo's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 425th, while Healdsburg is ranked 1086th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Maria Carrillo was led to victory by Nathan Dipman and James Hillestad. Dipman scored 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Hillestad scored 21 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Dipman scored 15 or more points. Ryan Dalby was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Maria Carrillo and bumps their season record up to 8-4. As for Healdsburg, they bumped their record down to 2-9 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Maria Carrillo will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Montgomery at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Healdsburg will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Windsor at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Windsor is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
