This season hasn't been kind to the Metro-East Lutheran Knights, who are still winless after their 12th match. They fell to New Athens 35-30. Metro-East Lutheran has not had much luck with New Athens recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Metro-East Lutheran saw an underclassman step up: Taylor Maack scored 14 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Maack continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Isabelle McLeod, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Metro-East Lutheran were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Leading New Athens to victory were Peyton Houser and Mallory Kohnen. Houser scored nine points along with nine rebounds and five steals, while Kohnen dropped a double-double on 12 points and 19 rebounds. Those nine rebounds set a new season-high mark for her.
Metro-East Lutheran's loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for New Athens, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-10.
Metro-East Lutheran will be home for the holidays to greet Greenville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Greenville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Saturday. As for New Athens, they will head out on the road to face off against Maryville Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
