II Section II recap Oct. 16, 2012
Marana was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 11th to eighth in II Section II. The Tigers vanquished Amphitheater 47-13 earlier in the week.
Salpointe Catholic extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Nogales, 42-7. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Lancers.
Ironwood Ridge's dynamic duo of Tyler Williams and John Klass proved tough for Flowing Wells to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Williams threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns and Klass had 101 yards receiving. Julian Figueroa helped Ironwood Ridge's passing attack out by catching two balls for 73 yards.
Alexander Howe was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 32 carries, he ran for 320 yards as Sahuaro topped the Caballeros. Teammate Jose Ruiz added to the ground attack by rushing for 54 yards.
Cienega's Adriell Alvarado and Luke Holley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading II Section II in both passing and receiving yards. Alvarado has thrown for 1563 yards this season, while Holley, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 45 catches for 656 yards. Kevionte Alexander from Rincon leads the league in rushing with 1423 yards.
Anthony Braunreiter of the Ironwood Ridge is only 88 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 112 carries Braunreiter has accumulated 912 yard this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Salpointe Catholic takes on the Rangers. At the moment, Dennis Bene's team is in second, while Rincon is in fifth.
Matt Johnson's team led the league in scoring this week after putting up 62 points on Flowing Wells. Williams ran for eight yards in the win.
