Softball Recap: Chatfield Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Chatfield barely beat La Crescent the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Gophers put the hurt on the Lancers with a sharp 12-4 victory on Monday. The Gophers haven't had any issues with the Lancers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Rylee Urban made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. Those runs were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Grace Finley was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She also launched a home run, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kendall Knutson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Chatfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Chatfield's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 8.6 runs thus far. As for La Crescent, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chatfield will host Rushford-Peterson at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for La Crescent, they will be playing at home against Dover-Eyota at 6:30 p.m. on the 22nd.
